Our Service, in the context of the invitation entitled “CL3-2021-BM-01-04 – Advanced detection of threats and illicit goods in postal and express courier flows” of the European Commission, participates as a partner in the research project entitled “Advanced technologies for scanning and detection of illicit material for postal services and express courier flows (iflows Toolkit)”. The official launch event of the project took place on 07-08 November 2022 under the auspices of the consortium coordinator (RECENDT).
The main purpose of the project is the implementation of an innovative toolbox consisting of advanced technology systems that allow the efficient and effective scanning and detection of illegal materials found within postal flows (in particular, within envelopes and parcels transported by conventional postal services and with express services).
It should be noted that the action in question is a research project, in which a total of fourteen (14) agencies from nine (09) Member States of the European Union participate. The various activities of the project will be carried out by the partners of the consortium, which cover the following categories:
- Companies and research institutes for the development of project technologies.
- Law enforcement agencies (police and customs) from Sweden, France, Greece, and Italy.
- Envelope and parcel transport companies.

The Ministry of Citizen Protection participates in the project with a partner E.D.P.M.A. as well as with officers of other Greek Police Services. Among other things, in addition to the contribution to specific individual activities of the Work Packages (WP) of the project, E.D.P.M.A. will also lead the management of Work Package 2 entitled “User Needs and Intelligence Data sets & iFLOWS Toolkit design and architecture”.
The total budget of the project amounts to €3,998,125.00 (100% EU contribution) with the duration of implementation limited to 36 months with an end date of 31-10-2025.
