Greece, due to its geographical location and extensive land and sea borders, connecting the Eastern Mediterranean with Central Europe, is a hub for the smuggling of illegal goods (tobacco, counterfeit products, money laundering, drug trafficking, weapons and alcoholic beverages ) as well as human trafficking.
Hellenic anti-Fraud Equipment and relevant trainings for Strengthening the Operability against Smuggling
Illegal product trafficking costs the EU and Greece millions of euros per year, through lost tax revenue, a loss that burdens European taxpayers, while at the same time robbing jobs from the legitimate supply chain.
The Hellenic Police and the Hellenic Coast Guard, as law enforcement authorities, in cooperation with national and international prosecution authorities, must have specialized and technically advanced equipment with parallel training of their personnel, aiming to combat organized networks and illegal trafficking goods.
In particular, the project concerns:
Α. Supply of portable x-ray devices and training of operators to inspect containers and vehicles at the country’s entry/exit gates.
B. Provision of unmanned aerial vehicles (Drones), with dual day and night cameras and training of operators to observe targets on road and maritime networks as well as in rural areas.
C. Provision of police dogs for the detection of illicit tobacco products and bank notes, including their training and the training of their handlers.
D. Joint (real) exercise between the involved Services and dissemination activities (workshop).
