EXIS: Training Cycle for Hellenic Police Officers on the Management of Violence against LGBTI+ Persons Successfully Completed
More than 270 Hellenic Police officers participated in the training activities of the European EXIS project across 12 cities in Northern Greece and the Ionian Islands
The cycle of training and workshop activities of the European EXIS project has been successfully completed, as part of Work Packages 3 and 4, with the participation of more than 270 Hellenic Police officers. The specialised training focused on the identification, prevention and effective management of hate crimes targeting LGBTI+ persons, as well as on strengthening the skills and capacities of police officers.
From May to September 2026, in-person training activities lasting one, two and three days were delivered in 12 cities: Corfu, Thessaloniki, Xanthi, Orestiada, Serres, Alexandroupoli, Komotini, Grevena, Kozani, Kastoria, Florina and Ioannina. The training programme was implemented by the University of West Attica and the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA), with the participation of Thessaloniki Pride, as partners in the European research project.
The training programme included interactive workshops, group exercises and mentoring sessions, providing participants with the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in the areas of hate crime, victim protection and support, as well as the development of an effective and people-centred approach to the provision of police services.
The training activities provided an important opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience, the development of skills, and the strengthening of cooperation among professionals involved in the management and response to incidents of violence and hate crimes.
The EXIS project consortium comprises the European and Development Programmes Management Agency (E.D.P.M.A.), the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA), the University of West Attica, the Hochschule für den öffentlichen Dienst in Bayern, Thessaloniki Pride, and IANUS Technologies.
