Within the framework of the project entitled “Enhancing police officers to fight discrimination and effectively respond to crimes against LGBTIQ+ people (EXIS)”, a Training of Trainers (ToT) seminar was held in Thessaloniki from 16 to 18 December 2025.
The seminar was attended by members of the coordinating team of the European and Development Programmes Management Agency (E.D.P.M.A.), as well as representatives of the project partners, namely KEMEA, University of West Attica (UNIWA), Thessaloniki Pride, IANUS Technologies, and the Bavarian University of Public Administration (BayHfoD).
The main objective of the seminar was to provide participants with training tools and methodologies, based on the educational material developed within the framework of the EXIS project. During the seminar sessions, participants examined and discussed the documented training needs of police officers, existing and identified stereotypes towards LGBTQI communities, research findings presented by the University of West Attica, as well as issues related to the police investigation of cases involving hate speech or hate crimes against LGBTQI individuals.
Over the course of three days, police officers who will form the core group of trainers had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and hands-on learning activities, focusing on strengthening police capacity to effectively support LGBTQI+ victims of violence.
